Late summer hikes with history

On 6/9

You arrive at the Mytillini airport on Lesvos and gets picked up in a minibus for transport and check-in at Hotel Mytilana Village hotel. We have a short walk-through in preparation for the week and evenings are free.

To 7/9

We gather outside the hotel at 9 am after breakfast. We travel about 30 minutes by bus to Thermi, where we will have our culture and history hike.This is a hike of about 7 km, but we expect 4 hours for all there is to see, explore and photograph.There is no steep up or descents as a pair of comfortable walking/walking shoes recommended for this hike. The walk goes past the Prehistoric Settlement of Thermi, the ruins of the first known society on the island. We pass even past the Panagia Trouloti, Byzantine Temple

We walk in the cultural district with small farms and houses and continues through ancient olive groves. Back down at the Harbour, we eat our lunch before we travel by bus up to the monastery of Agios Raphael, which is located just outside Loutropoli Thermis. After all the history, we offer the opportunity for a bath in the sea before we go back to the hotel.

FR 8/9

This day is FREE but we offer free of charge for those who wish information about the work we have with the homeless dogs on the island, as well as the refugee crisis of Lesvos as been very notorious.Possibility of visiting a Olivpressmuseum and a visit to the Ouzo museum in Plomari is also available, the opportunity then to lunch and swimming at the beautiful beach of Agia Isidoros just off Plomari.

Sat 9/9

We check out of the hotel Mytillana Village early, but take our breakfast and start 8,00 am outside the hotel. We have a little over an hour's drive down to Petra, on the north side where we make a stop for a coffee or some extra to eat. Our walk starts from Petra and lunch will be available to take with you.

The hike starts by Ligona walley with the ancient ruins of watermills. They are a piece of history that shows how to be abundant water from the source, and led the water to 18 water mills in the area. The trail continues with fine views over the Ligona Gorge and one can see how the lava from the volcano and the water from the source format landscape for thousands of years. The walk continues on to the mountain village of Petri with magnificent views of the Petra village by the sea. The mountain is not influenced by tourism, so there will be a quaint and authentic stroll through the alleys of Petri. We will of course make more fotos top and also take our packed lunch. We then go back to where our hike began to go to the hotel in Mollyvos where we will check in. HOTELS ARE NOT BOOKED YET.

8 – 9 km. count with 4.5 hours. The height difference is approximately 250 metres. 
The trail we assess as medium 3/5. The surface varies with dirt roads in a worse condition, paved roads. Short pieces is a little steeper and very rocky so we recommend hiking shoes

 Sun 10/9

After being rested during the night and got a good Greek breakfast we leave at 09.30. A short drive takes us to the Sigri, where we shall visit the ' Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest where we get a look back at some 20 million years with the petrified trees from the volcanic time as Crown Jewel.we will spend the day in Sigri for shopping or swimming and we go back in the afternoon to the hotel. 

Mon 11/9

We check out of the hotel after breakfast and travel to Kalloni 08:30am

We start in the small village of Dafia located just outside of Kalloni, which just plain meets the mountains. The hike takes us towards the mountains of the first monastery Myrsiniotissas Monastary. Furthermore, the joint us on old paved kalderimi roads through forest and olive groves to the next the monastery, Leimonas Monastary  is Lesvos largest monastery. There are museums, libraries, and a water source with holy water. We come to an old kalderimi road and we go as many monks and nuns made in the history of the monastery at number three, Anargyrois Metochi. The monastery has a beautiful paved courtyard and you can borrow tables with seating and we can pause with our packed lunch and catch up on us in the quiet environment before we go the last bit back to Dafia. You're vigilant you may see turtles in rivers we pass on the way to Dafia.

9 km, 5-6 hours for this hike. The height difference is less than 150 metres.

The trail we assess as medium-easy 2/5. The substrate is well mixed to dirt roads, paths and kalderimi.

It goes well in comfortable hiking shoes or walking shoes, but we recommend hiking boots for good support. the monasteries have a dress code which requires long pants and covered shoulders, trousers with detachable legs are recommended. Before we head to Mytillini is possible to dinner in Kalloni then we will stop at any Tavern.

We will then go to Mytillini to check in to the next hotel. HOTELS ARE NOT BOOKED YET.

 TI 12/9

We eat breakfast and start 9 am after breakfast for the trip to the Mytillini Centre, where we start our walk at the statue of liberty in the harbor. This walk-walk is 3 km so we expect 2 hours. About half of the time is devoted to the Castle of Mytilene (which is one of the Mediterranean's largest) and the other half to the city where you get to see some historical sites . The substrate is the streets of asphalt and cobblestone, so regular sneakers works very well.

Time will be provided for lunch on your own and look a bit in the shops before we gather at 14.00 to travel a few kilometres to Olive woodhouse (on Tripadvisor) We will see great craftsmanship produced while having the possibility to buy a nice gift with home.

In the evening, we hope you would meet at the selected restaurant for a farewell dinner on the House.

Transfer to the airport after check-out for the flight home, we expect various departures
